Illustration Friday: Phoenix

“The phoenix hope, can wing her way through the desert skies, and still defying fortune's spite; revive from ashes and rise.”

-Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra

Yeah, well, I got this Wacom tablet for Christmas, and now I've gotta figure it out. So, while I'm figuring and testing it, I'll try different things out on the IF posts. As with a lot of what I do, I find the most difficult thing is figuring out when to quit... so here's sort of an overdone illustration.

And then, below is the post I didn't get done in time for 'peace' last week. Not at all what I had in mind, but I just couldn't get my original idea to quite come together.

So, peace to everyone this last weekend of '06, and here's to the wish that hope for good things will rise up out of the ashes of this battered year.

I'm laughing at your post where you say "I got this Wacom tablet for Christmas..." because I was just talking to a friend of mine at the gallery and she has a Wacom tablet and I was telling her about some of the IF'ers saying "I just got a Wacom tablet for Christmas..." anyway, I will make a point. I don't understand anything digital but some of this stuff I'm seeing just blows me away. I guess it's just another medium to master, or not, but hopefully one has a blast just in the doing.
I love both of your illustrations. They're right on the money!
I just pray I don't get a hankering to try a Wacom. Could be trouble :/
Happy New Year!

I bought a Wacom Graphire 1 tablet yers ago. I'm pretty sure I also had to upgrade to Windows 98 2nd edition so that the USB connection would work. I am much better working with vector shapes and gradients. Nice work on both of the illos. Lets hope for a more peaceful 2007.
I immedately thought of you when I saw last weeks topic was 'peace'.

Peace from a former IdiotHead.

Your illo for peace reall says it all, a human being wanting, desiring peace, but the aweful reality of these times and past times in this troubled world. Inspired!
Happy New Year

I too, work with a Wacom tablet. It amazes me what you can create and how there are so many possibilities and various levels of results.

I have always love the rich layers you create with your images whether using simplicity, texture or rich colors you always evoke interest from your viewer! Happy New Year!!!!

Nice work, but I think the Peace drawing is the strongest of the two. And don't apologize for running out of time during the HoliDaze. Life happens.

Peace to you, and Happy New Year! Wonderful vibrant colors on the Pheonix and I love the perspective of the peace sign. I LOVE my Wacom tablet, I am sure I do not use it to it's full potential, but it helps my shoulder from not hurting! Look forward to your 2007 artwork!
