It was 1968, and I remember sitting in a theater in Santa Barbara with my grandmother when this movie's plot twist was revealed in the final frames. I know my jaw must have visibly dropped, so taken in was I. To me, one of the best plot twists in movie history. Far be it from me to be a plot spoiler and name the flick, but I think most folks will recognise it without having it named.
The flick that failed to surprise me, but which a lot of people name as having cinema's best plot twist, was The Sixth Sense. I was prepared for the ending, as my wife had speculated the plot had been lifted from a Goosebumps book she had read to our kids years before. Sat through that movie with her prediction running through my head, and sure enough... Talk about a spoiler.
Peace to all you folks, and be safe and sane for Independence Day.

Very well done Twisselman. I really enjoy reading what you have to say everytime... Great idea, And your right great twist for the first (and second, I couldn't guess either!)

Cool Illo, love that Brando portrait too!
I don't think I've seen that movie. How deprived I was! I love the drawing a lot. And the sides to make it look like film...genius on your part. I'll be sure to put this movie on my list of 'must sees.'
Great idea, well drawn. Nice way of keeping us old folks in the mix. Hopefully next week's theme will rhyme with "Boil Ant Scene". My Eye Friday
I know the movie. Great twist. Great illustration. Curse the spoilers too!
Very cool movie, and it's been a long while since I watched it, but I remember how completely unexpected the ending was, and now I want to see it again. Beautiful work, and you sure delivered the shock and eerie feel in that final scene. Big wow!
I was too young to see this in the theater. By the time I was able to see it, I think I already knew about the ending. I also had Sixth Sense figured out very early. The TV series with the weirdest twist at the end (of the series) was St Elsewhere. The best, in my mind, was the Newhart show.
I'm liking the sprocket holes at the edges.
one of my favorite all time movies. i remember finding the ending profound.
I'm not familiar with the movie you're referring, but I still like the style anyway. ALWAYS do... even when I don't always understand the angle. ;-)
(usually very curious about the background textures and color choices... I am very intrigued week after week.)
Brilliant evocation of a pivotal cinematic moment! I nominated you for the Thinking Blogger Award. You can capture it from my site and if you feel so inclined nominate 5 bloggers of your choice.
